Estradiol in the male body should be between 15pg/ml and 35pg/ml. The range on most lab tests range from as low as 10pg/ml, all the way as high as 55pg/ml.

As men age, testosterone declines. A very popular, world famous 3rd generation (in his own family) Belgian doctor by the name of Thierry Hertoghe has been quoted to say that a "a man loses 1 leydig cell every 4 seconds". Because the leydig cells which reside in the testis are the testosterone producing cells of the male body, testosteorne begins to decline as their population declines. With age, this change is usually accompanied by an increase in body fat which allows the male body to store and make more of the aromatase enzyme which converts greater amounts of the remaining testosterone into estrogen. So, a man is actually becoming a woman as he ages. At least, hormonally. Scary thought.

Yes, and no. At menopause a woman's production of estradiol from her ovaries declines to a point where the normal cycling and rising of estradiol and progesterone no longer take place. This is when the cycle 'period' stops. However, aromatase is made in fatty tissue as many of us know, and women continue to make adrenal androgens-androstendione, many others, and even testosterone. The aromatase has a lot of androgen substrate to work with and freely produces biologically active estrogens and estrogen metabolites.

53 Year Old Man, or 53 Year Old Woman: Who Has Higher Estradiol?

There have been numerous studies stating that the average 53 year old man with declining testosterone and rising estrogen (that is what happens if you do not supplement your 'natural' supply) has very close to the same estradiol level of a post-menopausal woman. Even my dad said, "thats disgusting".

SERMs and Aromatase Inhibitors are so interesting...Personally, I have never bought or read a book (ebook, hardcover, or otherwise) which had quality information about accurate use of SERMs and AIs. So, I decided to write one myself. After 15 years and helping 6 of my buddies avoid gyno surgery, I figure that others can benefit from some of the techniques that will be mapped out and included with charts, figures, half-lives, mechanism of action, and most uniquely, current literature on the important functions that estradiol has in the male body and how we are not healty without it.
